Podcast Radio to launch in Coromandel: A New Era for Local Voices

An international podcast platform is making significant inroads into the New Zealand market, teaming up with the Hauraki Coromandel Post’s online arm, HCPOST.NEWS, to deliver high-quality listening experiences and highlight the region’s top content creators.

UK-based Podcast Radio, which already operates affiliate networks in seven U.S. markets, announced its first international content partnership with Radio New Zealand (RNZ) in March 2020. This initiative broadened the reach of RNZ’s diverse content, showcasing New Zealand’s rich storytelling tradition to a global audience.

Now, Podcast Radio is taking the next step by forging a partnership with HCPOST.NEWS. In the near future, HCPOST.NEWS will launch a locally themed station, to be known as Podcast Radio Coromandel.

Alongside access to an extensive catalog of global podcasts, the new station will feature regionally produced content and hosts, creating opportunities for local advertisers to connect with a wider audience.

Podcasting has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity across the Pacific region, driven by the widespread adoption of smartphones and an increasing demand for original storytelling produced outside traditional media channels.

From community-driven productions to government-supported initiatives, podcasting is becoming an essential platform for news, education, and cultural expression in New Zealand.

It has also become a powerful medium for local voices to share their stories with the world, with many creators utilizing platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube to distribute their shows and build engaged audiences.

Speaking from London about the partnership, Podcast Radio CEO Gerard Edwards expressed enthusiasm for the initiative:

“We want to launch Podcast Radio in the Coromandel and be a game-changer for local voices—bringing the best regional stories to a global audience while integrating international content into a single listening destination in partnership with The Hauraki Coromandel Post.”

Edwards emphasized the vast opportunities available for content creators:

“This partnership provides content creators with a dynamic new platform to be heard, discovered, and celebrated. With the reach of digital radio and the credibility of trusted journalism, we’re bringing the world to the Coromandel like never before. Over time, we will introduce more Coromandel voices to this channel.”

“This marks a new era for storytelling, starting right here.”

HCPOST.NEWS will soon launch submission links for local podcasters to propose their podcast content for featuring on the platform. The station will also include interviews with content creators from across the country.
