
One person has died at a Coromandel tourist hotspot last evening (Saturday) which came after the rescue of another who was stuck on a cliff face.
A Police media spokesperson confirmed to the HC Post that one person died at a location adjacent to Hahei Beach in the Thames-Coromandel District after emergency services responded around 8:15 pm to a call for help.
“One person was located at the bottom of the cliff face in a critical condition, however they later died at the scene, “the Spokesperson said before adding:
“The second person was located trapped on the cliff uninjured; A Lines Rescue Team from Fire and Emergency New Zealand was deployed to retrieve them.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson confirmed that the specialist rescue line team from Hamilton was assisted by local volunteers in the rescue.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
