Editorial: New year, new paper

I am pleased to welcome the people of the plains and peninsula to a new era for the Hauraki Coromandel Post.

I consider it an honour and a privilege to be charged once again with providing the community with a voice to share local stories and give a vehicle for local businesses to thrive in New Zealand’s most breathtakingly beautiful landscape.

It’s a great time to be living down here.

The region has thrown off the shackles of uncertainty brought about by State Highway 25A’s closure and the hangover from Covid. It has risen like the proverbial phoenix to ascend to its rightful position atop the list of Aotearoa’s most desirable locations.

While tourism will always be the cornerstone of the local economy, the region still requires a commitment to industries that provide year-round employment to secure a stable future.

Further investment in sustainable aquaculture, renewable energy projects, and digital-based businesses could help diversify the economy, and there is undoubtedly the talent here to achieve said objectives.

In terms of new developments at the paper, we now have a standalone website located at hcpost.news

My team’s goal is to keep the pages updated with content as it happens, aided by our network of quality news-breaking journalists scattered throughout the region.

Readers should also feel free to send their contributions to breaking@hcpost.news. The address also acts as our gateway to share local interest pieces, be featured in the print edition, or provide leads for our editorial team to follow up.

Remember, the HC Post cannot exist without you and your support, and we welcome any and all contributions from community groups, event organisers, schools, sports clubs or anyone with an interesting yarn to spin.

This special preview edition is just a taster of things to come. We will hit the stands and letterboxes with a more extensive paper from February 20 and publish every Thursday.

We have also invested in a number of new paper stands emblazoned with our logo, which you will see popping up in several new locations around the district.

Once again, thank you for the opportunity to showcase this little slice of paradise.

Cheers

Jim
