Whats on: Dynamic Duo Brings Musical Magic to Thames

Musical husband and wife duo Andrew Atkins (piano) and Caitlin Morris (cello) are making their way to Thames this July, bringing their energy, artistry, and deep community spirit to the Thames Music Group’s Sunday concert series on July 13 at 2pm.

Based in the Wairarapa, the pair are known not only for their dynamic performances but also for their leadership in music education. Andrew, a graduate of the New Zealand School of Music with a Master of Musical Arts in Classical Piano, has performed major concertos with orchestras around the country and served as Assistant Conductor with Orchestra Wellington. He now heads the Music and Drama department at St Matthew’s Collegiate and co-founded the Wairarapa Youth Orchestra with Caitlin in 2021.

Caitlin is a cellist and composer whose work spans concert stages and film scores. She has performed with orchestras including the Nelson Symphony and Marlborough Civic Orchestra and composed for award-winning films such as A Girl Called Elvis. Currently studying cello performance at postgraduate level, she also teaches strings in schools and rural communities across the region.

This upcoming concert promises an afternoon of rich, expressive music from two musicians deeply committed to performance and outreach. Add it to your calendar and enjoy a musical journey from the Wairarapa to the Coromandel.
