“The Tuesdays” to Rev-up Kauaeranga Hall

Woven from very diverse threads, The Tuesdays are a band that by the sum of its parts produces a wonderfully unique sound.

The Tuesdays formed out of The Tuesdays, who had a strong following for what they felt was their mutant zombie soundscape and a wildly theatrical bent. When the tide went out on that outfit Nick Tidmarsh, Greg Hampton (guitar) and Jeff Whitfield (drums) found themselves looking for a new direction.

“We knew the talented Robyn Forster was in town, plying her many creative talents but we also knew that her absolutely stunning voice and charismatic mastery of the stage lay dormant,” says Jeff Whitfield, the band’s drum master. “Robyn had wowed audiences when leading Robyn and The Hoods and it was felt that she would be the right fit to address their chaos and disrepair. “We could see she was in no way sure but desperate musicians can be very persuasive.”

The next pieces of the puzzle have added a new sound and feel to The Tuesdays’ intelligent renderings of the more familiar material they cover and has helped the band to expand their song writing with a growing number of originals.

Anna Dunwoodie is an internationally acclaimed harpist, notoriously known locally, who loves the idea of the heavenly instrument being applied to the dark and murky art of rock’n’roll. Anna rounds out what she brings to the band with sweet vocals and a formerly undiscovered percussive talent.

Kevin Place came to the band earlier this year.  With such a strong musical pedigree and all-round coolness, it immediately raised the bar. A talented musician from the Auckland Americana school, his deft offerings on both guitar and slide have taken the band to places they never thought possible.
