Preliminary results in the 2025 Hauraki District Council elections show Toby Adams heading for a comfortable return as Mayor, securing 4,220 votes — well ahead of challengers Roman Jackson (562) and Levi Burton (417).
The result, while not yet final, indicates strong voter confidence in Adams’ leadership as he looks set to continue into a third term. Adams campaigned on steady progress, community investment, and ensuring rates remain affordable while maintaining local services.
Across the district, familiar names and new voices are emerging in the ward races:
- Paeroa Ward: Returning councillor Paul Milner leads with 1,083 votes, followed by Rino Wilkinson (996) and Jo Tilsley (982) filling the three available seats.
- Plains Ward: Neil Gray (1,211), Stephen Crooymans (1,131), Ray Broad (1,096), and Cynthia Bates (692) are currently ahead for the four vacancies.
- Waihī Ward: Anne-Marie Spicer (1,456) leads the field, joined by Austin Rattray (1,140), Amanda Ryan (1,128), and Sara Howell (1,082) as the top four.
- Te Pākikau o te Ika Māori Ward: Rereahu Collier and Desmond Tyler were elected unopposed.
In the Māori ward poll, early results show 2,947 votes to remove the Māori ward and 2,058 to keep it — suggesting Hauraki residents may opt to discontinue Māori representation, pending the final count.
Voter turnout figures have yet to be finalised, and special votes are still to be counted. Final official results are expected later in the week, but the early outcome signals continuity for Hauraki, with Toby Adams likely to retain the mayoralty and lead a council balancing experience with new energy.
