Hauraki District Council’s re-elected Mayor and new and re-elected Councillors have been formally sworn in at the Paeroa Memorial Hall followed by an inaugural meeting at the Council Chambers in Paeroa on Wednesday 29 October, marking the beginning of a new triennium of local leadership.
“Being sworn in is more than a formality. It is a reminder of the trust our community places in us,” said Mayor Adams. “It is about standing together with our people and working hard to make decisions that help Hauraki thrive now and into the future.”
A vision for Hauraki’s future
Hauraki thrives when all of us living here thrive. We all need clean water flowing from our taps, safe roads connecting us to work and school, parks and pools where families gather, and town centres where local businesses flourish. When we invest in these public facilities now, we all benefit – today and for decades to come.
The Council team continued delivering on this vision throughout 2024–25, with major progress on essential infrastructure including upgrades to Paeroa’s wastewater system that protect the health of our waterways, and the extension of the Hauraki Rail Trail through Waihī – creating new places for families to connect, businesses to thrive, and visitors to experience what makes our district special.
Across the district, the council team is also renewing roads, upgrading playgrounds, and maintaining pump stations that keep our communities safe from flooding. These public facilities connect us, care for us, and contribute to what makes Hauraki home.
Investing in long-term resilience
The recently adopted Annual Report shows an accounting result that reflects the timing of significant infrastructure investment currently underway.
The projects being invested in now – water systems, transport networks, and community facilities – take time to plan and build properly. These investments sit within our planned financial framework and represent careful, pragmatic decisions about what Hauraki needs to flourish long-term.
The new Council will continue working in partnership with iwi, community groups, and residents to shape Hauraki’s future.
The people working at Council care deeply about Hauraki and the people who call it home. They make decisions by thinking carefully about how they’ll affect everyone – including current and future community members. The team listens, plans responsibly, and we take practical steps to strengthen the systems and places that help us all thrive.
