Election 2026: Labour selects Glen Bennett for Coromandel

Labour has selected Glen Bennett as its candidate for the Coromandel electorate ahead of the next General Election.

Currently serving his second term in Parliament, Bennett is a Labour List MP, Senior Whip, and spokesperson for Tourism and Hospitality — a portfolio with direct relevance to jobs, small businesses, and the Coromandel economy.

Bennett said he is standing to provide strong, practical representation for the Coromandel and to advocate for the region’s future.

“Across the electorate, people are feeling the pressure of rising costs, strained health services, housing challenges, and the growing impacts of climate change on our coastlines, roads, jobs, and local businesses,” Bennett said.

“The Coromandel is a special place that deserves representation that understands both its strengths and its vulnerabilities.”

Bennett brings more than two decades of experience working alongside diverse communities throughout New Zealand. He said his upbringing in a Salvation Army family shaped his commitment to public service and gave him a deep appreciation for the importance of strong, connected communities, particularly during difficult times.

“I’ve spent my working life focused on the issues that make a real difference in people’s lives,” he said.

Bennett said his approach to politics is grounded in fairness, inclusion, and creating opportunities for everyone to succeed.

“I believe everyone deserves to belong, to be heard, and to have a fair go.”

Labour is campaigning to build a stronger, more resilient future for the Coromandel. Bennett is encouraging voters to support him with their electorate vote and to give their party vote to Labour at the upcoming General Election.
