David Fox becomes a Swamp Fox

Longtime community rugby servant David “Foxy” Fox has fittingly joined the Swamp Foxes.

Hailing from Te Awamutu, Fox is the newly appointed game development officer, bringing his love and passion for the oval ball to Thames Valley Rugby Union.

After 27 years of supporting, coaching and managing 33 Waikato Rugby sides, Fox has connections worldwide and is known throughout New Zealand rugby circles.

His family has been involved with grassroots rugby for more than 100 years through Te Awamutu College, Pirongia Rugby & Sports Club, Te Awamutu Old Boys and Te Awamutu Sports.

Fox will be familiar to many in the Thames Valley region as the chairperson of the Northern Regions Rugby Board. He’s proud to be part of the Heartland set-up.

“I have heard and seen so many good things about Thames Valley Rugby that I can’t wait to get started to help keep Thames Valley as one of the top provinces in New Zealand,” Fox said.

“I’m proud to be a Swampy.”

Thames Valley pivot Todd Doolan took to Instagram, to support the announcement.

“The man, the myth, the legend. Go well Foxy.”

Thames Valley Rugby Union community rugby manager Scott Day has had many dealings with Fox previously and describes him as “an absolute legend”.

“We are really excited to have Foxy join us as game development officer in the Thames Valley,” Day said.

“His passion, dedication and energy towards Rugby Union is unwavering, and we look forward to leveraging this experience within our community.

“Foxy will lead club rugby, a position he has done extensively for a number of years with Waikato Rugby.

“He will also add a lot of value in all other areas of the business, including his role as chairperson of the Northern Regions Rugby Council.”

Thames Valley chief executive Scott Penney said Fox’s addition to the staff is due to increased numbers in the game.

“He has an extensive background in rugby as a player and administrator for over 20 years and will add immense value to our staff.”
