Two of New Zealand’s most recognisable sporting icons, “Smokin’” Joe Stanley and Julie Coney, are heading to the Coromandel later this month to take part in the Paradise Coast Golf Classic — a premier three-day couples golf event that’s fast becoming one of the region’s most popular tournaments.
Now in its third year, the Paradise Coast Golf Classic will be played across Tairua Golf and Country Club, Pauanui Lakes Resort, and Whangamatā Golf Club from November 27 to 29, with room for 120 players and more than $10,000 in prizes up for grabs.
The top prize is a $3,000 luxury golfing experience at Te Arai Links, drawn randomly from all entries. Players who sink a “two” during the tournament will also go into the draw for a Jayco Auckland 7-day motorhome tour.
Julie Coney, a Silver Ferns great, says she and former All Black centre Joe Stanley — can’t wait to get on the greens.
“It’s just such a fun thing to do as a couple,” says Julie. “We often pick a course somewhere, throw the clubs in the car, and go have a great day. What I like about the Paradise Coast Golf Classic is the couple’s focus — a lot of tournaments are either men’s or women’s, but this one allows more people to play together. Joe and I are really looking forward to it and meeting all you keen golfers.”
The event continues to grow each year, attracting strong sponsor support and a great mix of local and visiting players. A handful of entries remain available, but organisers expect the field to fill by the end of October.
